July steel exports down 11.5 percent
U.S. steel exports in July totaled 806,512 net tons (731,656 metric tons), down 11.5 percent over June, but up 9.3 percent from July 2016. Total exports have declined over the last two months after reaching a 2.5-year high in May (1,006,087 tons). The total July export figure is below the three-month moving average (average of May 2017, June 2017 and July 2017), and below the 12-month moving average (average of August 2016 through July 2017). Here is a breakdown of flat rolled and plate steel exports:
Cut plate exports decreased 21.0 percent from June to 85,748 tons, and were down 14.9 percent compared to levels one year ago.
Exports of coiled plate were 57,629 tons in July, down 11.9 percent month over month, but up 66.3 percent year over year.
Galvanized exports fell 15.0 percent month over month to 105,617 tons. Compared to one year ago, July levels were up 8.3 percent.
