The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of March 2017, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,692,434 net tons, a 6.4 percent increase from the 7,232,341 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2017, and a 4.3 percent increase from the 7,377,392 net tons shipped in March 2016. Shipments year-to-date in 2017 are 22,633,191 net tons, a 6.0 percent increase vs. 2016 shipments of 21,348,141 net tons for three months.

A comparison of March shipments to the previous month of February shows the following changes: hot rolled sheets, up 13 percent, cold rolled sheets, up 8 percent and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 8 percent.
